In this article, we explain common error messages when retrieving EAU and provide a detailed list of all error codes. Further information on error messages when setting up and using the DATEV integration can be found in our corresponding articles.
Before you get started
In order to use the DATEV integration, you or your payroll accountant need the appropriate access rights.

Lohnaustauschdatenservice for eAU retrieval
No DATEV retrieval possible
Problem:
The desired time off cannot be retrieved via DATEV because the time off type is incorrectly configured.
Solution:
Verify that the affected time off have been set up correctly. Make sure that the time off type for DATEV retrieval has been set up and that all required settings have been made correctly. If necessary, adjust the configuration and try retrieving again.
DATEV retrieval is not possible for individuals
Problem:
Although the settings are generally correct, individual employees cannot access them via DATEV. In such cases, the required information is usually missing in the profile of the person concerned.
solution:
For the person concerned, check the following points:
- In the settings of the entered time off type, is the category set to case of illness?
- Has the Health Insurance Type attribute been set correctly?
- Is the verification function activated?
- Is the person included in DATEV?
- Has a personnel number been entered?
Make sure that all information is complete and accurate. If necessary, make any necessary adjustments and try retrieving again.
Please note:
Please note that the EAU call does not apply to employees with private health insurance. Employees with private health insurance should continue to follow the usual process of uploading their medical certificate manually.
Discrepancies with DATEV retrieval: Different dates
Problem:
Retrieval via DATEV fails because one or more people have different information on entry or exit dates.
solution:
For the employees concerned, check whether the following data matches:
- Original entry date
- Start date of the current employment period
- Termination date
Make sure that all dates are maintained correctly and consistently. If necessary, adjust the data and try retrieving again.
Error messages
If there is an error retrieving the eAU, you can view the error message and the corresponding error code within the time off. The following error messages can appear during eAU retrieval:

▶ If an error has been fixed, the time off must then be created again in Personio to restart the EAU retrieval.

No access to the eAU function. The authorization medium used to authorize eAU no longer has access to the DATEV Lohnaustauschdatenservice. Contact your payroll accountant to verify that the payroll data service has been ordered and configured for the appropriate authorization medium (more information on how to set it up can be found here). Once this has been done, the service does not need to be authorized again within Personio. |
| EAU P-AU-0000002 |
SmartCard revoked. The authorization medium used to authorize eAU is no longer valid. Ask your payroll accountant to set up a new authorization medium and properly order and configure the payroll data service (setup steps can be found here). Once this is done, you need to re-authorize the eAU within Personio. |
| EAU V-EM-NAME000 |
There is invalid data for the employee in DATEV. The First name and Last name fields can each contain a maximum of 30 characters. The eAU cannot be retrieved. Contact your payroll accountant. |

| EAU C-CL-0000000 |
This occurs when DATEV's EAU API was unable to find the payroll data in its database at all for validation purposes. The main reason is usually a missing step in the setup, step 6 for Lohn und Gehalt. The automatic data transfer must first be fully set up before an eAU can be retrieved. To do this, contact your tax office. |
| EAU C-PL-0000000 |
The employee identified by their Personalnummer could not be found in DATEV. Before an eAU can be retrieved, compare the DATEV personnel number. A common reason for a failed retrieval of the eAU from DATEV Lohn und Gehalt may be that relevant personnel numbers are not correctly taken into account in the data transfer cockpit. Under “Manage data transfer”, the data transfer should be stored as “Automatic.” Detailed information on how to set up the data transfer cockpit can be found in the DATEV help article. We recommend that you carefully check the configuration of the data transfer cockpit in your DATEV account. If the settings are grayed out, please contact DATEV Support. |
| EAU C-PL-0000001 |
The employee is registered as statutory health insurance in Personio, but is registered as private health insurance in DATEV. At the start date of the time off period, the employee has private health insurance. eAU retrieval for privately insured employees is not permitted. Check the start date of the sick leave time off and the employee's insurance status. |
| EAU C-PL-0000002 | The start of incapacity for work does not occur within an employment period. The eAU cannot be retrieved. Check the start date of the sick leave time off and the employee's employment periods. |
| EAU C-PL-0000003 | There are no health insurance details for the start of the sick leave time off. The eAU cannot be retrieved. Check the start date of the sick leave time off and the employee's insurance details. |
| EAU C-PL-0000004 | The start of incapacity for work is not within an active period of employment (entry/exit date). The eAU cannot be retrieved. Check the start date of the sick leave time off and the employee's employment periods. |
| EAU C-PL-0000005 | The start date of the sick leave must not be earlier than 1 October 2021. The eAU cannot be retrieved. Check the start date of the sick leave time off. The eAU cannot be retrieved before this date, as the data for the eAU is not yet available. |
| EAU C-PL-0000006 | The start date of the sick leave must not be in the future. The eAU cannot be retrieved. Check the start date of the sick leave time off. DATEV only accepts eAU requests with periods starting today or in the past. |
| EAU C-RE-0000000 | Multiple requests for the same time off have been started within the last 5 days. Delete the time off and enter it again, to re-start the retrieval of the eAU. If the error reoccurs, contact the health insurer or DATEV to check whether there is no eAU for this time off. |
| EAU C-RE-0000001 |
You must not cancel a request that is not marked as pending. |
| EAU V-EM-NULL001 | The policy for providing a certificate for the incapacity for work (the day on which the eAU shall be submitted) is not defined in DATEV. The field Certificate from day must not be empty. The eAU cannot be retrieved. Contact your payroll accountant. |
| EAU V-EM-NULL002 | The site information in DATEV is incomplete or invalid. The Site field must not be empty. The eAU cannot be retrieved. Contact your payroll accountant. |
