This article explains how to create recruiting categories in Personio. Recruiting categories help you group your different application processes. This is useful if you use different processes for certain jobs.

Before you start
To create recruiting categories, you need permissions to the Recruiting company settings. You create and manage recruiting categories in Settings, under Recruiting > Categories.
When you create a new category, you usually add custom recruiting stages to it. Recruiting stages reflect the different steps in the recruiting process. This varies depending on the category. For example, a category for working students likely has fewer stages than a category for permanent employees. Learn how to create custom recruiting stages.
Create a recruiting category
To create a recruiting category, follow these steps:
- In Settings, go to Recruiting > Categories.
- Click the button to create a new category.
- Name the category. For example, “Permanent employees”, “Working students”, or “Temporary contractors”.
- Select the recruiting stages to add to this category. If you don’t assign any stages, Personio applies all stages by default.
- [Optional] Under Autoresponder, you can set an automated confirmation email.
- Apply your changes.
Tip:
You can adjust the order of stages in a category. However, if you move stages in an unexpected order, Personio shows you a warning message. Having stages in the incorrect order can affect the accuracy of your metrics.
Edit or delete a recruiting category
Notes:
▶︎ If you delete a stage with candidates assigned, they are sent to the Unassigned system stage.
▶︎ If you delete a category with jobs assigned, the jobs are then displayed as Without category in the jobs list. Any candidates who are linked to these jobs are sent to the Unassigned system stage.
To edit a recruiting category:
- In Settings, go to Recruiting > Categories.
- From the left, select the category you want to edit.
- You can make the following changes:
▶︎ Select more stages or remove stages.
▶︎ Click the three-dots icon at the top to edit the category title. - Apply your changes
To delete a recruiting category:
- In Settings, go to Recruiting > Categories.
- From the left, select the category you want to delete.
- Click the three-dots icon at the top to delete the category.
Add jobs to a category
After you create a recruiting category, you can add jobs to that category. You do this when creating a job, under Hiring plan > Hiring process.
