This article gives you an overview of the Planning Cycles tab in the Planning area, also known as Workforce Planning app.
The Planning Cycles tab is one of the three main features in Personio's Workforce Planning journey, and it requires the subscription to Personio Core + Workforce Planning app.
What is the Planning Cycles tab (Workforce Planning app)?
The Planning Cycles tab, also known as the Workforce Planning app, enables you to launch planning cycles and oversee the company-wide workforce planning from a single tab in the Planning area.
These cycles involve key stakeholders and enable Directors and Executives to view team composition and plan workforce strategy effectively. They also allow other Vice-presidents and Chief Executives to review and approve proposed headcount plans.
For example, the Marketing Director in your company can see their team's current composition (3 employees with a monthly cost of €100,000) and their target composition (7 employees with a monthly cost of €300,000).
This feature helps you:
- Centralize all data about your teams' current and planned workforce.
- Make the data accessible to relevant stakeholders without worrying about access rights.
- Easily collaborate with relevant stakeholders on headcount plans.
- Be flexible and introduce changes to the workforce plan while keeping a clear view.
Furthermore, companies with a workforce strategy in place are:
- 1.8 times more likely to perform well financially.
- 3 times more likely to adapt well to change.
- 4.5 times more likely to have high workforce productivity.
Preparation to use the Planning Cycles tab
The Planning Cycles tab is part of the Workforce Planning journey in Personio.
This journey consists of three closely interconnected features:
- The Job architecture settings
- The Active Positions tab
- The Planning Cycles tab
To be able to use the Planning Cycles tab, you must set up the first two features.
Follow the steps in this article to configure both the Job Architecture settings and the Active Positions tab.

Upcoming functionalities
- Basic cost planning (calculate position costs based on salary multiplier and additional fixed costs, as well as a rule for general salary increases).
- FTE attribute will be added to the Summary widget in the Workforce Planning journey.
