In this article, you will learn how tax consultants can connect the Personio platform for tax consultants to a customer account to manage it. For an overview of the platform, see the Help Center article on the topic.
Before you get started
Permissions in the Personio account of the tax consultant
In order for tax consulting partners to have access to the tax consulting platform and the tax consulting section in the navigation bar, the administrator responsible for the partner's Personio account must set up the appropriate authorization via employee roles. We recommend creating a new employee role (e.g., "Tax Consulting Access") and assigning the relevant tax consulting employees to this role. This allows you to keep track of access. You can read about how to create a new employee role in this article.
Add the following permission to the employee role:
- Under Settings > Organization > Roles & Permissions, select the appropriate employee role.
- Click Permissions and go to Configurations > Customers.
- Under Manage Clients, assign the permission for Everything.
Ensure that all tax advisory partners who are to have access to client accounts are assigned this role.
Authorization in the customer's Personio account
Customers who want to set up collaboration via the tax consulting platform must have admin permissions for their Personio account.
Product limitations
The platform for tax consultants currently does not support the following cases:

The audit protocol:
- In the current beta phase, actions carried out by the tax consultant are recorded collectively. It is not possible to attribute actions to individual users of the tax consultant.
- Processes related to the initial setting up of the connection between the tax consultant and the customer account are not recorded.
- The audit logs show events collected for the tax consultant, not for individual employees.
- Duplication of email addresses: No identical email addresses may be created in the Personio account. For example, this is relevant if the tax consultant was previously created as an external employee in Personio.
- The customer account must have the right company on file for the consent process to work. Otherwise the link will fail.
The Tax Consultant section
In order to be able to manage the payroll accounting of your customers, the following tabs are available for tax consultants:
The Overview tab
In the Overview tab, tax consultants see at a glance all customers to whom they have access. The display can be filtered, grouped and sorted according to various criteria. In the columns you will find important information, such as the status of payroll accounting, the latest approval, any blockers and the tool used by the customer.
The Manage tab
In the Manage tab, tax consultants will see more information, such as the contact details of customers. They can also create or remove the link to the customer account here.
How tax consultants add customers
To establish the link to your customer, follow these steps:
- Navigate to the Tax Consultant section and go to the Manage tab.
- Click +Add Client in the upper right corner.
- To establish the link, provide your client with the access code shown.
After your customer has entered the code, the link is established. You can then access their data and start managing it.
How customers activate the link for tax consultants
In Personio, you can add your tax consultant using the access code. To do this, follow these steps:
- Go to Settings > Payroll > Tax Consulting.
- Click + Add Tax Consultant at the top right.
- Enter the access code that you receive from your tax consultant.
- Click next and confirm the link.
After confirming the access code, your Personio account will be linked to the account of your tax consultant.
Please note:
After linking the accounts, the respective tax advisor will have access to all legal entities stored in Personio, regardless of the selection made in the approval process. Therefore, please check carefully in advance which legal entities are live in your account.
Separating the Link with the Platform for Tax Consultants
Tax consultants and Personio customers can unlink from the platform again. To do this, follow these steps:
This is how tax consultants can break the link:
- Navigate to the Tax Consultant section and open the Manage tab.
- Under Action, you can remove the link to the respective customer account.
- Then confirm the removal of the access.
How customers can break the links:
- Go to Settings > Payroll > Tax Consulting.
- Click on Remove and confirm the entry.
Notes:
- Note that changes to the access rights (e.g.: removal of access to the platform) can take more than 60 minutes to become active.
- If a consent is withdrawn, the link to the same tax consultant can be restored using a new code.
Usage
When tax consultants select a company in the overview, they go directly to the customer account. There, you can switch to the payroll accounting of your customers to manage, audit and approve it. Create and track support tickets
Create support tickets
To create a support ticket via the platform for tax advisors, follow these steps:
- Go to the "Tax Advisors" section and open the relevant client profile.
- Click Support > Contact Us.
- Select "Personio Payroll" from the list and the corresponding theme.
- Click "Send Message" and enter a subject line and a description of the problem.
- Optionally, select other people with whom you want to share the ticket, and add attachments. The account's Personio Payroll owners are automatically copied on the email.
- Finally, click Send.
Track support tickets
To view and track tickets that have already been created, follow these steps:
- Go to the "Tax Advisors" section and open the relevant client profile.
- Click Support > Support History.
- Open the relevant ticket.
In the ticket overview, you can see all the tickets you've created and their actual status.
