What are the Personio Payroll features?
The payroll section in Personio offers a central platform for managing your employees' data and payroll. You can access it via the navigation bar on the left under Payroll. Here you can:
- Get an About your monthly payroll
- Track data changes and tasks
- Identify and fix errors in payroll data
- Personio Payroll settings manage

The Overview tab
What is the tab overview
The Personio Payroll overview is a key takeaways of all the essential information for the current payroll period. It serves as a central hub and provides easy access to payroll features. Here you can:
- View a key takeaways: Get a clear About all critical elements in your current payroll period.
- Managing tasks: Prioritize and track tasks to maintain compliance and efficiency.
- Easy to navigate: Use the overview as an access point to seamlessly access other Personio Payroll features and tools.
The overview is designed to streamline your payroll management and make it easier to stay organized and compliant.
Information in the tab overview
The cards in the tab overview provide you with summarized salary data. The following table shows the information cards available in the overview and their functions:

The People tab
What is the People tab?
Here you can see a table of all employees included in the payroll month of payroll. Each employee corresponds to a row with salary attributes, tasks and data changes. Here you can:
- See details: Click on the detail view of an employee. There you can see the most important HR and payroll information, changes, and payroll previews for the people.
- Customize, sort and filter: Click the button with three dots above the table to adjust the table columns. Use the sorting and filtering options on the left above the table to customize it to your liking.
- Use predefined views: Use predefined views to focus on different information such as entering, active, and exiting employees or blockers.
- Get a quick About it: Below the table, you can see a key takeaways of the billing month with the number of employees, and employees who have at least one change or blocker.
Actions in the People tab
Review changes
The Changes column shows all the changes that occur for an employee during the payroll month (for example, an address update). Click on the number of changes to access the detail view, where you can view recent changes and retroactive changes.
Correct errors
The Tasks column of the payroll table alerts you to any attribute problems for the respective employees. A distinction is made between:
- Warnings: The icon consists of the number of warnings that alert you to format errors of attributes. You can still release the payroll run.
- Blocker: These indicate missing attributes or format errors based on validation rules. You must correct these errors before you release the payroll run.
Click the corresponding icon to access the task detail view. Here you can see more information and fix the error directly in the employee profile.
Check payslips
Check the preview of employee payslips in the Gross Salary or Info tabs of the detail view.
Tip:
You can also view and download the preview of the payslip in the tab Documents.
The Tasks tab
What is the Tasks tab?
The Tasks tab provides an overview of outstanding tasks in payroll. He highlights problems that are triggered by validations. These include errors in employee data, errors in information about subcompanies or missing information on team calendar. Here you can:
- Get a quick About it: The table shows blockers and warnings, as well as deadlines for tasks organized by employee. This allows you to see at a glance which tasks you need to complete before the approving the payroll.
- To sort and filter the view: Use the options above the table to sort and filter tasks by priority, category, or due date, for example.
- Get instructions on how to solve it: Click on a task to view details, including validation errors and instructions on how to fix them.
Please note:
Currently, you cannot perform the following actions with this feature:
- Assign tasks to specific employees
- View tasks in Inbox
- Manually change the due date of tasks
Edit tasks
Each row in the table corresponds to a pending task requiring action. Tasks are divided into:
- Warnings: These point out, for example, minor format errors. You can still release the payroll run.
- Blocker: These indicate missing attributes or format errors based on validation rules. You must correct these errors before you release the payroll run.
Click the respective table row to open the detail view and resolve the error. Use the filter options to focus on critical tasks and ensure that all blockers are resolved before billing approval.
The Compliance tab
What is the tab compliance?
In the Compliance tab, you can view all communications that take place on your behalf with the social insurance companies, like a mailbox. You can also view which tasks result from these communications. A distinction is made between:
- Events you can view: Such events can be completed without any further input on your part. You can view and print them (example: social security registrations).
- Events that require you to be lived: You have to work through such events (example: Eels, contribution estimates).
This includes what is communicated when the payroll is approved and all the other actions that can always be performed by you (for example, the retrieval of eAUs or requests for A1-Bescheinigungen).
To view and manage events in the tab compliance, you can:
- Filter and search events: Filter events by payroll period and event category. Find all communication for selected employees in one area.
- Use predefined views: With predefined views, you can focus on events that need attention or view all events.
- Get active: Click on the button in the top right corner New Eventto start processes (e.g. to apply for an A1 certificate).

You can view the following events in the Compliance tab, but do not need to do anything yourself:

The Manage tab
What is the Manage tab?
The Manage tab is the central point for all Personio Payroll settings. Here you can:
- settings manage: Easily update details, for example for subcompanies, permanent establishments, tax and social security information.
- Ensure compliance: Validate and check all settings to minimize errors.
- Optimize payroll processes: With all settings in one place, you can manage your payroll processes more efficiently and effectively, reducing time and errors.
All available sections can be found in the left column. Note that the settings for accident insurance, subcompanies and permanent establishment still redirect to the general Personio settings.
Manage your settings
Edit sections
To edit sections, follow these steps:
- Fill in details: Click Edit in the bottom right corner of each section to unlock the page and fill in the required information.
- Set an effective date: Once you're done, set an expiration date and save your entry.
- Handling: Errors or missing data are displayed as both inline validations and banners at the top of the section, marking the areas that need attention.
The workflow might vary depending on the section. For example, changes to the accounting report are saved automatically. Relevant Help Center articles are linked from within each section.
Information on setting up health insurance companies
Always make sure that the information entered reflects the current agreements with your health insurance companies. This includes contribution rates and provider details. Incorrect information can cause problems such as:
- Rejection of reports by a health insurance company.
- Rejection of payment by a health insurance company.
Please note:
Changes in Personio do not change your agreements with health insurance companies. Any changes to the agreements must be handled directly with the health insurance companies.
