Goals are objectives that you can assign to employees in Personio. You can create them in bulk and assign them to multiple employees at once.
Goals details
When creating a goal, you define the following:
- The goal's name.
- The timeframe for its completion. This is important when linking goals to salary bonuses.
- The employee permissions. You can empower the assignee to edit the goal's name, or to update the goal's progress.
Progress tracking
Individual tracking - Subgoals
When creating a goal, you need a way to track the progress of the single employee or team assigned to it. To do so, add at least one subgoal to the goal.
A subgoal is a customizable measure of progress. You can define it as:
- A target percentage.
- A specific value to be reached.
- A yes/no value (the subgoal can either be reached or not).
Centralized tracking - Organizational goals
You can track a goal's progress against more general, company-wide objectives. To do so, add Organizational goals to the goal you are creating.
You can customize them as you do with subgoals (as target percentage, specific value to reach, or yes/no value). The difference is, you manage them from one place, and you can link them to multiple employee goals.
When you log progress on an organizational goal, the progress on the linked employee goals is updated accordingly.
Custom weights and categories
When creating your measures of progress in the form of subgoals and organizational goals, you can add:
- A custom weight. Weights are a percentage value. They define the importance of each subgoal or organizational goal in reaching the employee goal.
- A category. Categories define who is responsible to reach the subgoal or organizational goal. Choose between Individual, Team or Department.
Configure goals
To configure goals, follow these steps:

- The goal creation drawer opens. In Set goal details, define the name and timeframe for the goal. Then define the employee permissions.
- Click Next. In Define measurement, choose how to track progress on the goal.
- Under Additional settings, choose to allow custom weights.
- Add subgoals and organizational goals, as needed. Define their measurement, weight and category.
- In Choose employees, search and select the employees you want to assign the goal to.
- In Review and confirm, double-check your configuration. When ready, click Create goals.
