This article explains how to sign a document with an electronic signature. You can do this on two different types of documents:

• Work contracts for candidates
• Employee documents

Computer browsers and mobile devices support the document signature feature.

Sign employee documents or work contracts for candidates

To sign an employee document or a work contract, follow these steps:

1. Open the e-mail inbox associated with your Personio account or application.
2. Open the "Request to sign the document - [Document Name]" email from Personio eSignature.
   • If you can't find the email, check your spam folder for an email from "esignature@personio.com".
3. In the email, click View document to open the signing environment.
4. Review the "How does it work?" page, and click Start.
5. Activate the checkboxes to accept the terms and conditions and click Accept.
6. Click the document to place your signature.
   • If the document contains a signature placeholder, a yellow highlighted box appears. Depending on the document, there may also be date or location placeholders to complete.
   • If the document does not contain a signature placeholder, click to place your signature wherever you like on the document. You can drag the signature to move it before submission.
7. On a mobile device, sign in the box with your finger or stylus. On a computer, use the mouse or trackpad.
8. Click Accept to save the signature and return to the document view. Click Send document once ready to send.

You'll be redirected to a page that confirms you successfully signed the document. The document's signature status in your profile changes from "Pending" to "Signed", and the document remains available in your profile.

Decline a signature request

To decline a signature request, follow these steps:

1. Open the e-mail inbox associated with your Personio account, or application.
2. Open the "Request to sign the document - [Document Name]" email from Personio eSignature.
   • If you can't find the email, check your spam folder for an email from "esignature@personio.com".
3. In the email, click View document to open the signing environment.
4. Review the "How does it work?" page, and click Start.
5. In the top-left corner, click the menu icon with three lines.
6. Click Decline signature, then enter your reason for declining.
7. Click Confirm.

You will see a document declined confirmation page. 

Review all of your open signature requests

You can check all the open signature requests in the signature environment. Follow these steps below:

1. Locate and open any document signature request in the email account associated with your Personio profile.
2. In the email, click View document to open the signature environment.
3. Review the "How does it work?" page, and click Start.
4. In the top-left corner, click the menu icon with three lines.
5. Under Pending documents, click Go to your pending documents.
6. A page that lists the last documents you received opens. Click see documents. 
7. Click Open and sign to review and sign each document request.
8. Follow steps 4-8 above.
