This article explains how to set up two-factor authentication (2FA) on your mobile device. It also explains how to set up 2FA if you change your mobile device.
When 2FA is active for an employee role, those employees need an authenticator app to log in to Personio. The authenticator app generates a second code, which employees need to enter along with their password to access Personio. Learn how to enable 2FA.
Set up 2FA for the first time
To set up 2FA:
- Download your authenticator app to your mobile device. We recommend using Google Authenticator for 2FA, but any authenticator app works.
- Open the app.
- On another device, open a browser and go to Personio at companyname.personio.com/login
- Log in with your email address and password.
-
A barcode appears. Scan this barcode with your app.
- Enter the token that appears in the browser into the authenticator app.
Transfer 2FA to a new mobile device
If you switch mobile devices, follow these steps to set up 2FA:
- Download the authenticator app onto the new device.
- Contact an employee with administrator rights for your Personio account.
- The Administrator needs to access your profile and reset the authenticator.
- Then, log into Personio at domainname.personio.de/login using your email and password.
- Scan the new barcode that appears with your mobile device.
Fix time zone issues in 2FA
A common error occurs when the time zone on the device doesn't match the time zone in the app. This invalidates the 2FA code. To fix this issue:
For Android devices:
- Open the 2FA app and go to the settings menu.
- Look for options related to time correction for codes.
- Synchronize the time settings.
For iOS devices:
- Adjust the settings to set the date and time automatically.
- Ensure location services always allow access to your 2FA app.
After correcting the time settings, ask your Administrator to reset the 2FA.
