This article explains the Reporting line access area available in Personio's access rights, and clarifies whose information employees can access when you select Default or Additional Supervisor as the reporting line.
What's the Reporting line access area?
Access areas specify whose information employees can access.
For example, employees should only see their own salary details but should be able to see time off information for other employees.
There are four access areas in access rights:
Own | The employee's own data. | |
Reporting line |
The employees who report to the employee. |
Note
|
Custom |
A specific selection of employees that you define through filters. |
|
All |
All employees. |
If you select Reporting line as the access area for a specific access right, Personio applies the primary supervisor relationship as the default reporting line (direct and indirect reports).
If you want to set up an alternative reporting line for the access right, like additional supervisors (dotted-line reports), you must select it manually. For more information, see the sections below.
The default reporting line
Personio uses the primary supervisor relationship as the default reporting line.
If you navigate to a specific employee role, and go to Access rights > People icon > Default, you can only select the employee's primary supervisor (Supervisor).
By selecting Supervisor, you are giving employees who have been assigned as primary supervisors access to the data of all employees who report to them, either directly or indirectly.
This includes their Direct reports (employees who have them assigned as their supervisor) but also their Reports (employees from the previous group, plus their own direct reports).
Example
The Org Chart view below shows the reporting line for Supervisor Max Meyer when only the Supervisor option is selected.
The additional supervisor reporting line
Since Personio uses the primary supervisor relationship as the default reporting line, you must manually select an alternative reporting line.
If you navigate to a specific employee role, and go to Access rights > People icon > Additional supervisor, you can choose between the different supervisor types (or general relationship types) that you previously set up via the Personio settings.
By selecting an additional supervisor (example: "Second supervisor"), you are giving employees who have been assigned as additional supervisors access to the data of all employees who report to them as dotted-line reports.
Example
The Org Chart view below shows the reporting line for Supervisor Felix Max Meyer when both the Supervisor and the "Second supervisor" options are selected.
