In 2025, we introduced a new version of our report builder in the Analytics area. This article explains what's changing and what you need to know.
The new report builder replaces the Classic Builder. We’re moving all functionalities from the classic to the new version. This means you keep all your valued report-building capabilities while having access to an improved reporting experience.
During the transition, we plan to move your legacy custom reports to the new report builder. This only includes custom reports that someone has accessed in the last 12 months. During this period, you can use both new and custom reports. At the end of the transition, we plan to fully remove custom reports and the Classic Builder. We'll share detailed email communication with all Administrators about this transition period, as well as the planned removal date.
If you use the Custom Reports API, you also need to move to the Report API v2.
Understand key changes
We’ve made some key changes from the classic to the new report builder. Here's what's new:
- Reporting logic: The new report builder organizes reports by attribute type (timeframe or point-in-time). You can combine both types in the same report. The Classic Builder limits you to one report type per report.
- Permission control: You can control who can create, view, share, and edit reports based on their roles.
- Performance: The new report builder loads faster than the classic version.
-
Data options:
- New attributes and metrics: Job data, age and tenure buckets, salary bands, absence rate, employee turnover rate, cost center allocation, and more.
- Future additions: Recruiting, performance and development, and payroll data.
- Advanced reporting: The new report builder has more filtering, visualization, and calculation options.
Explore the new report builder
If you haven’t already done so, explore the new report builder in the Analytics area. You can create two types of reports, depending on your needs:
-
Reports from scratch: You have two options to create a report from scratch:
- Standard blank report: Use this option to create a fully custom report. You can avail of any employee data. Select columns, filters, and attributes as necessary.
- Employee change blank report: Use this option to track changes in employee data over time. You can see old and new values side by side, as well as the date of the change.
- Reports from predefined templates: We have a range of templates available to help you create quick reports.
Learn more about how to create a report. Note that the new builder supports a maximum of 50 columns. You can’t open reports with more than 50 columns in the platform. However, you can still export them from the report list.
What you need to do
We plan to roll out the transition in five phases. You can expect email communications from us throughout this process.
Phase 1: Prepare for the migration
We'll communicate the timeline for the transition with you. This includes when we plan to:
- Migrate your custom reports and API.
- Remove the Classic Builder.
To prepare for the transition, we recommend you do the following:
Step 1: Delete any old or unused legacy custom reports
- Go to Analytics > Reports.
- Check the box next to the legacy custom report you want to delete.
- Delete the report.
Step 2: Share reports to maintain access
Note:
If you're an Administrator, you can lose access to reports if you’re not the creator or if a colleague doesn’t explicitly share a report with you. Follow the steps below to maintain access to reports.
The new report builder uses individual permissions. You can only access a report if you create it or if someone shares it with you—this applies to Administrators too. An employee’s role and permissions define what data they can see in a report. To make sure a colleague can see the full report, you may need to adjust the sharing settings and their permissions to the relevant attribute data.
Before or during the migration, share each report with the relevant employees:
- Go to Analytics > Reports.
- Open the report you want others to maintain access to.
- Share it with the appropriate employees, including other Administrators. If you're not the creator of the report, you also need to share it with yourself.
Report creators can still share reports after the migration. However, keep in mind that the creator might not always be available to do this.
Phase 2: Migration of reports and removal of Classic Builder
In this phase, we’ll first migrate your legacy custom reports and then remove the Classic Builder. Here are some points to keep in mind:
- We’ll only migrate reports that have been opened by someone in your company within the last 12 months.
- We’ll duplicate existing reports into the new report list alongside the originals. This allows for easy discovery and comparison.
- If you save changes in a legacy custom report, the system also updates and saves the corresponding version in the new report builder. Note that this can take up to 24 hours.
- We’ll remove the option to create reports via the Classic Builder.
- Migration includes the report owner and any explicit report recipients.
To ensure a smooth transition, we recommend you:
- Compare any migrated reports.
- Delete any old or unused legacy custom reports (if you haven’t already done so).
- Report any issues to our Support team.
Phase 3: Removal of edit rights
After we migrate your legacy custom reports, only view access remains. You can no longer edit legacy custom reports.
Here’s what you need to do:
- Continue to create and access the reports from the new report builder.
Phase 4: Removal of legacy custom reports
In this phase, we'll remove any legacy custom reports from the report list.
Here’s what you need to do:
- Continue to create and access the reports from the new report builder.
Phase 5: Removal of the Custom Report API
If you're using the Custom Reports API, learn how to use the Report API v2.
FAQ
Can I still access my legacy custom reports during the transition?
Existing custom reports remain accessible for now. In the following order, we plan to:
- Remove the option to create new reports.
- Remove the option to edit custom reports.
- Remove all custom reports.
Is the Custom Reports API still working?
Yes, the Custom Reports API remains fully operational, and you can continue retrieving your custom report data as usual. However, we plan to migrate from version 1 to version 2 of the Report API and eventually deprecate the old endpoint. We’ll share the transition timeline and the deprecation date of the old endpoint with you via email.
We recommend using the new v2 endpoint for any new integrations you set up.
