This article explains how to import departments and teams into Personio. You can use these imports to set up and manage your organizational structures. You can also make bulk updates and create hierarchical structures. The departments and teams imports help when you need to make many adjustments at once, like during reorganizations. You can use these imports during and after your initial Personio setup.
Review your organizational hierarchy
Before you start, make sure you have the correct details of your company's structure. Collect information like department names, team names, and hierarchy levels for your employees. Learn more about departments and teams.
Note:
You need to import departments and teams in separate files. You can't combine them in one import file.
Fill out the import template
- Go to Settings > Imports.
- Select either the Departments import or Teams import.
- Download the template.
- Open the template and read the guidelines.
- Fill out the template with the relevant department or team information.
Besides the “Name” column, all other columns are optional. Use the “Updated name” column only if you want to change the name of an existing department or team. The updated name is relevant for setting the hierarchy in the “Parent” column.
Import the completed template
- Go to Settings > Imports.
- Select the same import type: Departments or Teams.
- Click Next and upload your completed template.
- Match the columns in your file to the corresponding attributes in Personio.
- Review your file for any errors. If there are errors, follow the instructions to fix them.
- Confirm the import after fixing all errors.
