This article explains what Payroll Owners can do in Personio and how Administrators can add, change, or remove them. It also compares Payroll Owners, Account Owners, Contract Owners, and Administrators.
You need to add a Payroll Owner if you have subscribed to Personio Payroll.
Payroll Owners
- Payroll Owners are responsible for approving and implementing payroll in your organization.
- Payroll Owners can contact Support with questions about Personio Payroll or payroll processes.
- Payroll Owners can be the same person as the Account Owner and Contract Owner, if applicable.
- You cannot assign a single Payroll Owner role to multiple people. Each role must belong to one individual. We don't allow shared accounts under our General Terms and Conditions.

Add a Payroll Owner
- Go to Settings.
- In the Account & support section, click Support owners.
- Click the Personio Payroll owners tab.
- Click the plus icon.
- In the new window, enter the required details. Personio can only contact you using one of the phone numbers you enter. Make sure the phone number matches the one shown when you make a call.
- Click Add to finish the process.
Change a Payroll Owner
To change who holds the Payroll Owner role, you need to remove the previous person and add the new one. If you only have one Payroll Owner, add the new person first. Personio requires at least one owner at all times.
- Go to Settings.
- In the Account & support section, click Support owners.
- Click the Personio Payroll owners tab.
- Remove the Payroll Owner you want to replace.
- Add the new Payroll Owner.
Edit a Payroll Owner
To edit a Payroll Owner, click Edit next to the employee's name in the Personio Payroll owners tab. Make your changes and save them.
Remove a Payroll Owner
- Go to Settings.
- In the Account & support section, click Support owners.
- Click the Personio Payroll owners tab.
- Select the employee you no longer want as a Payroll Owner.
- Click the bin icon in the top-right corner.
- Click Yes to remove the Payroll Owner.
You cannot remove a Payroll Owner if they're the only employee with this role because Personio requires at least one. First, assign a new employee to the role. Then, remove the previous Payroll Owner.
