This article explains how you can independently upgrade the size of your Personio plan. You will learn how to add employee licenses, upgrade, and optimize your plan with the Personio Apps.

Note:
Only Contract Owners and Administrators can upgrade features of your Personio plan.
Add employee seats to your plan
As your company grows, you will need to increase the number of employee seats in Personio. You can use the self-upgrade functionality to easily add employee licenses to your plan.
Follow these steps to add employee licenses:
- Go to Settings > Support > Subscription & Billing > Subscription.
- Under Subscription details, click Add seats.
- Select the number of seats you need. Note that in the summary box on the right, you will see the updated number, your new cost, and the cost difference.
- Click Add seats and schedule payment.
Note:
The changes will take effect immediately after confirmation. Your billing price will be updated instantly, and your additional cost will be prorated based on your billing cycle. If you already have a discount, it will remain in place. You can read our article on how to perform an upgrade for more information.
Upgrade your plan and add apps
Throughout your journey with Personio, you might also want to upgrade your plan and benefit from our extended functionalities. You can see which features are included in our plans underneath the different options. You can also read our article on Personio plans for more details.
Follow these steps to upgrade your plan:
- Go to Settings > Support > Subscription & Billing > Subscription.
- Under Subscription, click Upgrade.
- The upgrade page opens. On the right, you can see the upgraded plan, your new cost, and the cost difference. Click on Continue to apps.
- Select the apps you need. Click Continue to summary.
- Review your changes. Accept the terms and conditions.
- Click Upgrade and schedule payment.

Downgrade your plan and apps, or remove seats
Note
This feature is only available to monthly customers, and to customers with less than 50 employee seats in Personio.
Over time, you might need to downgrade your plan and apps, or to remove employee seats. To do so, follow these steps:
- Go to Settings > Support > Subscription & Billing > Subscription.
- Next to Subscription, click Subscription details.
- Click Contract renewal. This tab shows what your next subscription entails.
- To schedule changes for your next renewal, click Schedule changes.
- You can now downgrade your plan and apps, or remove seats as needed. Note that the minimum number of users is 25. Click Continue to summary.
- The system asks you to confirm. Click Confirm downgrades.
The changes are now scheduled for your next renewal date.
Tip
You can still upgrade your plan, apps or seats, after performing a downgrade. Personio automatically updates your contract renewal details.
When is my contract renewal date?
The renewal date is the contract start date and is visible in your contract.
