This article explains which parameters define the language in which the Personio career page, and the job description pages will be displayed. 

The default language logic of the career page website, the job description pages, and the language selector in the footer, are independent of each other.

Logic for Career Page Language

The default language displayed on the Personio career page is defined by the following logic:

1. The user's browser language: If your career page is configured in the user's browser language (in Settings > RECRUITING > Recruiting > Career page), this will be the default language.
2. Fallback to English: If your career page is not configured in the user's browser language, the default language presented will be English.
3. Fallback company language: If your career page is not configured in the user's browser language nor in English, the default language presented will be your company's default language (configured in Settings > ORGANIZATION AND PEOPLE > Company > Language preference)

Note: A language will only be considered "complete" if all required fields in the career page settings are filled out (translated) for this language. Only then will the language be reflected in the career page (as default language or in the language selector in the footer).

Examples:

1. The user is browsing in German and there is a position with a German translation, and all required fields in the career page settings are filled out in German.  ► The career page will be displayed in German.
2. The user is browsing in Italian and there is a position with an Italian translation, but the required fields in the career page settings are not filled out (translated) for this language. ► Everything is displayed in English, and Italian will not be displayed in the language selector in the footer, but Italian translations for job descriptions are available.
3. The user is browsing in English, the required fields in the career page settings are filled out in English, but there is no English translation for any of the positions. ► The career page is displayed in English with English in the language selector in the footer, but no English translations are available for positions.

Logic for Position Language and Default Language of the Description

The language of a position and the default language of the position's description are determined by the default language that is configured in a position's description tab (in Recruiting > View details > Description). In case you have also configured translations for a position in the position's Description tab, the position will show a language selector.

Examples:

To demonstrate the logic of the default language of a position in combination with the default language of the career page.

1. Companies with positions in one language 

   ► Behavior: All positions are displayed on the career page. Each Position title is shown in the language that was set as default in the job description. The language selector in the footer depends on translations filled out for the required fields in the career page settings. Metadata for positions (Employment type and Location) is displayed in the language of the career page.

2. Companies that have positions with translation/s (e.g. a position in German and English)

   ► Behavior: All positions are shown on the career page (German and English ones). Each Position title is shown in the language that was set as default in the job description. Metadata for positions (Employment type and Location) is displayed in the language of the career page.
