This article explains security tokens and how to use them to log in to your Personio account.
Understand security tokens
Security tokens add an extra security layer to your Personio account. They protect your data from unauthorized third parties. As Personio contains sensitive employee data, you can't deactivate this functionality.
Personio's automated monitoring system detects suspicious activity. Examples include using different browsers, IP addresses, or failed login attempts. If we detect anything unusual, we email you a one-time security token. You need this token and your password to log in. The token remains valid for 20 minutes.
To use the token, click the link in the email or enter the token during the login process. After entering the security token, you return to the main login page. You need to enter your email and current password again to complete the login.
Tip:
To avoid unnecessary security token emails, set your browser to allow and save Personio cookies. Add *.personio.de to your browser's cookie allowlist. For example, in Chrome, go to chrome://settings/cookies.
The email with the security token also includes:
- A timestamp of the most recent login attempt
- The type of device used
- The IP address and country where the login happened
Note:
If you get a security token email and don't recognize the activity, you should reset your password.
Troubleshooting security tokens
I haven't received the security token email
Check your spam folder for an email from info@m.personio.de. If it's not there, ask your Personio Account Owner to contact our Support team. If you don't know who the Account Owner is, contact your HR team.

I've received the security token, but it doesn't work
If you've triggered multiple tokens, use the most recent one. Security tokens are only valid for 20 minutes. After this, the system must create a new token.
I still can't log in
