The payroll table is the core of the preliminary payroll in Personio. We have improved this core functionality to give those in charge of payroll in your company access to the following when using the DATEV integration:
- Better navigation in preliminary payroll in an updated design.
- Continued central completion of all preliminary payroll tasks in one place.
- Benefit from improvements and additional information such as new tabs for people, employee changes, and documents.
Note
As a result of the redesign of the preliminary payroll, there are functional changes in document management that need your attention. See the below section The Documents tab for details.

Visual redesign of the payroll table
We have introduced a new, clearer design for the payroll table. We have kept the functionalities mostly the same and have focused on the following:
- Optimized design: The payroll table is more modern and clearer.
- Easily visible flags: Changes are flagged more clearly for a better overview.
- Updated details view: Find important HR and payroll data and changes in one place.
The People tab
The new Employees tab provides a structured overview of your data. It offers three dynamic views for each payroll period:
- All employees
- Employees who start in the company
- Employees who are leaving the company
For the All employees view, we have added three new attributes:
- Gross salary: Salary including all compensation types.
- Time off taken: Total of all recorded time off days in the payroll period, also depending on which time off you select in the preliminary payroll settings.
- Paid vacation balance: The number of paid vacation days remaining in the year.
Customize your experience to suit your needs by adjusting columns and using filtering, sorting and search options to review only data that is relevant to you. In future, you will be able to customize the displayed attributes and to add attributes such as the social security number or tax ID, for example.
This tab does not highlight changes and is not included in exports.
The Employee changes tab
This new tab provides an overview of all individual changes in employee and compensation data, as well as additional data on the time and details of changes. You can also filter for specific data using the new filtering, sorting, and search options. This makes it easier to review only the changes that are relevant to you.
In February, we will also launch dynamic All changes and Retroactive changes.
The Documents tab
The Documents tab is the new one-stop shop for your generated exports and retrieved documents. You'll find a convenient overview of all payroll exports created during the payroll period in question, and you can download them or send them directly to DATEV. As soon as documents are ready in DATEV, you can access them and distribute them to your employees with a click of the button on the Documents tab in Personio.
We have also improved the main navigation. The following columns provide an overview and show:
- Document: The name of the document. This could be an Excel file, a generated DATEV export, or any documents retrieved from DATEV.
- Source: Indicates whether the document comes from Personio or DATEV.
- Audience: Shows whether the document is for employees or the legal entity.
- Payroll group: The document's corresponding payroll group, if enabled.
- Status: Shows whether a generated DATEV export can be transmitted to DATEV, has been uploaded to DATEV, or has already been imported into DATEV for payroll. For all other documents, the status serves as an indication of whether there has been an error.
- Created on: The creation or retrieval date of the document.
- Action: Options to download, send to DATEV or delete a document.
